Halfway in the treatments

Today was the 16th radiotherapy treatment. Vincent has regressed a lot since the beginning of the treatments. On the 3rd day, he injured his ankle, which prevented him from walking. Since, we took Vincent to see an osteopath who quickly took care of the injury, however, Vincent's balance never came back. He therefore must move around in a wheelchair, or with mum or dad to help him with his balance.

His neurological symptoms have also gotten worse. They are: paralysis and numbness of the left side of the face, left eye crooked, left eyelid cannot close, left ear not working, numbness of right side of body, trembling, balance and coordination affected moderately.

Vincent's moral is good. He is very positive, although his situation has done nothing but get worse. He is now more stable, and some of the trembling has receeded. The worse part for him has been the lack of sleep due to the Decadron, a steroid medication that he needs to take to keep the swelling of his brain under control. We are now in the very slow process of weening him off the Decadron, and hopefully, he will soon be able to function without it.

This is a very tough and serious illness that Vincent is going through. He is being VERY brave and has shown great strength of character. He is quite a fighter, but still needs encouragements. We ask you to please leave notes or commentaries, just a small hello or a funny anecdote from your day. We spend time everyday to read the commentaries, and it bring a bit of sunshine to his heart. His radiotherapy treatments are everyday of the week between 11:15 and 11:45AM, Montreal time. Please, set your watch or cell phone alarm for that time, and take a few minutes to send Vincent good thoughts, to help him get through this. It never stops to impress him how many people think about him, and it give him a lot of strength.

Thank you so much for taking a few minutes of your day for Vincent.

Hi Vincent,

My name is Terri and my son Collette knows your Dad. Collette told me that you have been fighting a recent illness and how very strong you have been.

I am not very good with computers and do not know French but I think the computer can change the French words to English words for me. Collette is trying to learn French by listening to tapes!

I am hoping I have done everything correctly and you receive my message.

So this is the second time I have tried.

Maybe during your recovery time, you can teach me some things about computers.

Hello there Vincent, Mrs. Harvey here! I've been reading your blog and am really sorry to hear that you're going through such a tricky time in your life. It seems so unfair to me, but I take comfort in the fact that you are such a strong person and I can just imagine how positive you'll be through this. I admire you for that and I wish you all the luck in the world for your journey of recovery.

Nothing too juicy to report from Foremarke right now, but I'll keep you posted! Lucas is still very tall and I'm worried he'll be overtaking me soon!

Thinking of you and your lovely family.

Mrs Harvey x

Dear Vincent,

Hope you are felling well today!
Your mom keeps us regularly updated about your progress.

I know its hard to be in bed during the nice weather, but I also know you have a positive attitude most of the time and I realize admire you for this.

I think you will be meeting my friend Ellie tomorrow. She is really nice and very talented in teaching visualization techniques. She will help you visualize healing and peacefulness. Enjoy it!

Big hug, until we see you next....

Dear Vincent:

We’ve never had the opportunity to meet before, but I certainly know a lot about you. You see, I work with your Dad. The company I work at is called Super Steel, and we work with your Dad to manufacture trains. He’s a very special man who really cares about what he does, how he treats people, and what impacts he has on others. Most importantly, however, he cares first and foremost about his family, and has often told me about you.

Stay strong. I could appreciate that there are very difficult days, but remember that you have many good friends (as seen on your blog), a lot of support, and a wonderful family that cares very much. We will certainly keep you in our prayers.

Sincerely,
Keith

Hi Vincent - I think I have finally worked out how to get ont this blog thing. How hopeless am I!!
I really liked hearing from your mum the other day even though she was saying that Thierry isn't coming over for the moment. That's fine with us as he has got his prioities right - to stay with you while you are having to resist this illness.
Quite a few things have changed with us. Rachel has just had her last day at school ever!! Zach has finished at Foremarke - but not before he got all togged up to go to the leavers ball - and he was really good looking. We have got a new car as our old volvo was gettign very worn out and I think it would finally have given up on us completely if we had kpt if much longer.
We are travelling up to Hull in it tomorrow as this is where Rachel hopes to go to university. But England has had some really bad floods in parts and Hull has been badly hit - so we hope we don't meet any in our new car!!
Anyway Vince we wil let you know how we get on soon. We are thinking about you a lot and wishing you to get well - keep on being the brilliant brave boy hat you are.
With love from all of us.

Hi Vincent.

Hello from wet, cold, Derby!!

(I'm using my wife's Google account login. I'm Andy Ward.)

You and I only met once - when your dad came to work for Bombardier in Derby, UK.

England is just how you remember it - it should be warm and sunny - but its RAINING and COLD!!! My lawn is like a swamp and I can't go out and enjoy the good weather - 'cos there isn't any!!!

Really sorry to hear that you are not feeling too good at the moment. Hope you'll feel stronger and able to enjoy life again real soon. People tell me (and I see from the blog) that you are a very special young guy....putting up with all this hospital hassle!!

I have set my cell phone alarm to remind me when you are having your treatments in the hospital and I will stop work each day and send you some white thoughts - hope you sense them!!

Myself, my family and my friend Alan Roe (he's a friend of your dads, too) will be rooting for you as you go through this trying time of your life.

Take care Vincent - please KNOW that you are in our thoughts and our hearts.

Hi Vince. Cal here. Good news! Cast off!! Bad news, back on the cruthches! Leg not working well at all, having phsio and back to see doc in 5 weeks. Coming to Canada Friday 13th (!). Hang in there buddy! You owe me a hockey game! Will blogg when we get back from Canada and I will let you know what I think of your country!. Cal
